Linda Williams Aber ë 9 Download Read & download ☆ Adrift Lost Girls #1 ↠ E-book, or Kindle E-pub It was supposed to be one fun filled week sailing in the Bahamas Timid Libby Allison the beauty ueen sisters Sarah and Annie and Shawn the artist each aboard the Sea Breeze with different expectations of the trip to come Bu. I woke up one morning with a strong desire to take a break from the real world I needed something that was short and simple but I could still get completely lost inI knew just the book and despite it being one of my favourites as a kid I hadn t read in a long long timeA few weeks ago I was reading about an essay that theorised adult reading habits In effect it identified everyone as being one of two types of readers those who read fiction because it s customary and somewhat classy to do so and those who read fiction because they re disappointed with real life We form these habits in childhood and it affects the way we personally view works of fiction for the rest of our lives the former kind has a healthy curiosity in life the latter is far too sunk into the pleasures of narrativeAs you may have guessed I m the latter type Lost Girls Adrift was my favourite ever book as a kid and reading it all these years later has finally made me realise the reason why A group of teenage girls being washed ashore a tiny island with no hope of rescue seemed to match the secret escapist dream I always kept in the back of my mind the entire time I was growing upOn the surface the book seems to have a Baby Sitter s Club esue vibe Six very different girls each assigned one word descriptions in the publisher s summary are featured in a story aimed at tween females that is clearly trying to kick off a long term seriesBut there s a lot to the story than meets the eye and it s the very reason I found myself sucked into the pleasures of fictional escapism all over again The characters are complex and I found I could relate to every single one of them at varying levels I don t see this as a coincidence and instead interpret it as the author s amazing ability to create a set of characters that every member of the target audience can relate to in some way The first girl Allison appears very shallow on the surface She cakes her face in make up and loves staring at boys and the other girls tease her for it However she s only like this because it s what her vain upper class mother teaches and pressures her to do and she s never known any differentSarah and Annie are sisters Sarah is older and perfect in every way and Annie resents her for it Instead of antagonising a particular girl I noticed that Williams Aber worked to show the good and bad sides of both of them Sarah means well but can be too motherly and talks down to her sister whereas Annie can be rude in response but has a desire to be her own person instead of living in the shadow of her older siblingLibby is the stereotypically sensitive girl of the bunch Her parents died in a car accident a tragedy which she s still getting past and she cries her eyes out all the time and lives in constant fear However this doesn t automatically make her an overly kind and compassionate person Shawn is characterised as the anomaly She s an indie chick with guys name and an interest in art and seems uite happy with herself and her personality However deep down she s disappointed in real life and seeks to remove herself from it in every way and instead observe it from the outside looking inFinally Huzzy is the natural born leader An island native and the oldest of the group she takes responsibly for the five girls who were placed in her care However she s not perfect and often becomes stuck when the others are relying on herIt might not have been the greatest story I ve ever read and it s not my favourite book like it was all those years ago but I still felt close to every girl throughout the tale Around half of it covers the girls setting sail and getting to know each other and the other half covers them getting shipwrecked and settling on the island The focus isn t on the events themselves but how each character handles them emotionally making for an interesting tale that s easy to throw yourself into and not return until the sight of the back cover rudely reminds you that the real world you ve been trying to avoid hasn t gone anywhere And be warned it ends on a cliffhanger so you may just find yourself on eBay at 2am tracking down the seuel as I did many years ago

Linda Williams Aber ë 9 Download Read & download ☆ Adrift Lost Girls #1 ↠ E-book, or Kindle E-pub T none could foresee that this trip would become the greatest adventure of their livesHuzzy their skipper is an island girl eager to show them the beauty and wonder of the place she calls homeBut without warning the Sea Bre. This was 3 stars for the first half 2 stars 34 of the way through but bumped back up to 3 stars by the end It s fine though the ending leaves much to be desired like I don t know the second book in the series to continuefinish the storyThe setting is for the most part on a deserted island which Aber writes well enough I can believe and imagine the foliage the sand and the ocean and see it in my head when she describes surroundings especially when she does it through the eyes of Shawn gazing upon the island dreamily The plot is good despite a book 2 needing to be read for its conclusion It ends on a higher note after being mopey for a time I guess deserted islands do that to you and what the characters experience is believable enough throughout Speaking of characters they re fine There s not a whole lot of character arc to be found aside from Allison joining the group at the end Libby not crying as much and Sarah losing her perceived perfect image because she cried Aside from that there s not much I guess Shawn wanting to stay there can leading into book 2 where she ruins everyone s chances of leaving because she wants to stay there creating conflict in the group but that s just a guess It s a short book that s a teenage piece of Castaway so if that s what you re after go ahead and read it just don t expect a satisfying conclusion at the end I d advise only read this if you have access to book 2 in the series Or if you want to add to your yearly books read of Goodreads
