Steve Kluger Ø 4 Read

Changing Pitches Read ï 104 G job as a pitcher of Kool Aid on a TV commercial And if that isn't enough he's just been teamed up with a catcher he detests Jason Cornell Jason is twenty eight. This book s key demographic is likely baseball fans than readers of LGBT lit yeah I know there s overlap but we have here a wonderful wonderful baseball book for baseball fans especially the ones that lived through the seventies and eighties Warning if you re interested in lots and lots of hot gay sex this may not be what you re expecting but if you want a sports story that deals w an LGBT presence in sports you ve probably come to the right place

Changing Pitches Read ï 104 Washington Senators star Scotty MacKay is a left handed pitcher whose fastball isn't what it used to be His team is in last place His girlfriend just got an actin. I confess I couldn t wait to read this book Ostensibly straight pro baseball player named Scotty starts crushing hard on his handsome teammate and ends up with and I uote a major league problem on his hands It sounded so bad that it HAD to be good Tragically it s just bad enough to be AWFUL and not even in the you secretly kitschily love it waySpoilers ahoy But they re only things you should really really know if you plan on reading this book Don t worry you never will so go ahead and read with impunityThis book would have offended my very sensibilities even without the mediocre writing contrived humor and eye rolling potshots at health food okay okay I get that it was the 1980s but enough with the giant bowls of alfalfa sprouts already all that just added insult to injury The ubiuitous racist jokes about Japanese ballplayers let me sum it up for you East Asians are tiny sneaky and bright yellow just like all those charming old posters tried to tell you are pretty jaw droppingly offensive but you will forget them all as soon as you reach the big climax because last chance to turn back before spoilers OMG IT TURNS OUT SCOTTY ISN T GAY AFTER ALL HE WAS JUST STRESSED OUT ABOUT PROPOSING TO HIS GIRLFRIEND SO HE GOT CONFUSED AND THOUGHT ALL THAT ANXIETY WAS ACTUALLY A HOMOSEXUAL CRUSH Dear lord NOTHING makes me feel betrayed or rage filled than ostensibly gay stories with oops just kidding endings tacked on to make them palatable to mainstream audiences Seriously they make me just absolutely nuts Again I get that it was the late 80s But if you re going to write a gay book write a gay book Or write a book about straight people I know you know better than that Steve Kluger

Changing Pitches Read ï 104 Has lots of teeth and poses for underwear ads He's blond and has blue eyes Scotty's favorite color is blueBy August Scotty's got a major league problem on his han. Not as wonderful as Kluger s other recent books I believe this is Kluger s first novel and it shows Characters don t seem uite as developed in this book as they are in his other books though they are still likeable I didn t laugh out loud or cry I just turned each page waiting for the end If I d read this one before his other books I m not sure I would have read the others I won t be buying this one but I still suggest that if you like Kluger s books you might as well read this one tooThe following is a portion of a review on by Moustapha Sene that I agree withTrue Changing Pitches only hints at the uniue narrative style that Kluger would develop fully in his future novels but in some ways the actual writing is tighter crisper and to the point than it is in his popular books This may be because he hadn t yet stumbled upon the device of telling his story through the points of view of a variety of different people and their respective speech patterns but is able to concentrate almost entirely on the wry and acerbic left handed fastballer Scotty MacKay sort of a Henry Wiggen with a college degree
